Title:

Fungal-based Lead for the Management of Insect and Mite Pests

Value Proposition:

The global Beauveria bassiana biopesticides market size was valued at USD 523.71 million in 2025 and is expected to reach USD 1,515.04 million by 2033, at a CAGR of 14.20%.

Fungal based pesticides contribute to sustainable pest management by targeting pests with minimal environmental impact. CSIR-IHBT has isolated an effective Beauveria bassiana, a native entomopathogenic fungal isolate from Ophiocordyceps indica. This isolate is effective for the management of aphids, lepidopteran pests, and mites. It will help in reducing the use of synthetic chemical pesticides, ensuring safer food production and environment. It can be incorporated into Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and organic farming programs.

Summary Application:
  • Native entomopathogenic fungal isolate effective against diamondback moth, cowpea aphid, and two-spotted spider mite under lab conditions.
  • Produces high number of spores for faster colonization and efficacy.
  • Suitable for IPM-based pest management strategies.
  • Environmentally safe with low risk of resistance development
Advantages:

Low risk of pest resistance and pesticide residue.
