| Abstract: | Heat/fire and smoke alarm devices are developed that contains shape memory material element and IR photo detector. A device is developed which successfully work in the laboratory and simulated field environments. The device is based on the breaking of the optical circuit, formed between the IR transmitter and photo detector, upon shape recovery of the shape memory material element when it senses the heat due to overheating, fire or any other incidences. The smoke accumulation due to fire or any other sources also breaks the optical circuit and hence activates the alarm device. |
