Abstract:
The invention claims an apparatus and process for measuring the maximum gas adsorption/desorption capacity of a powder solid sample, in particular coal/shale, by a volumetric method. The innovation is that it can measure the adsorption/desorption isotherm of a group of four samples at the same time, wherein four independent channels are made by single gas injection point. Since the natural adsorbent samples may come from different buried depths, the apparatus can simultaneously perform adsorption/desorption measurements on four samples at different temperatures corresponding to the depths of the four samples through a partitioned water bath system. In addition, the apparatus can measure the ability to adsorb gas at very high pressures up to 40 MPa (replicating reservoir depths up to 4000 m). In addition, the sample instrument is capable of withstanding a pressure of 6000 Psi. The device can also process toxic, reactive and highly flammable gases. Another unique feature of the present invention is that the high temperature accuracy is 0.1°C. The device can be applied to the gas storage capacity and recoverable storage prediction of CBM, shale gas and CO2 geological sealing project.
