| Title: | HMIGauge 1.0: A Portable Image Colorimeter for Heavy Metals Detection in Water |
| Value Proposition: | Colorimetric field test kits are widely used in water quality analysis for low resource settings including rural area. However, the test results are analysed by comparing the color with a color comparison chart, which is a subjective method of quantification. Also, the result obtained is not recorded in real time. To overcome this issue, CSIO has developed a portable device that can be used in the field to quantify the color response of test strips, and a handy USB-shaped image colorimeter. The device can be used with any existing commercial test strips for colour-based water testing, and is currently ready for use for lead and residual chlorine quantification in water. Under ongoing project, device is being extended to cover more than 20 water quality parameters based on color change. In this line, CSIO has also developed a simple colorimetric kit is developed for the onsite detection of selenium. Selenium is a major water pollutant of concern over a few years in Indian states including Punjab and Haryana.
