Improved Natural and Forced Draft  Biomass Domestic and Community GVK Series Cookstoves

Traditional cookstoves have low thermal efficiency that results in high fuel consumption thereby contributing to deforestation  and due to incomplete combustion of biomass fuels resulting in emission of toxic smoke. Cookstoves for cooking of food should be  environment friendly with less smoke and also consume less fuel wood .

• CSIR-institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT), Bhubaneswar has developed different GVK series natural draft cookstoves starting from a small family to big family upto community size of  100 people.The natural draft cookstoves are portable multi fuel with front fuel feeding and one forced draft with top fuel feeding with biomass pellet as well as wood. Both primary and secondary are entered in the bottom as well as in  the fuel feeding port below and above the grate, for this reason very  less emissions. Combustion chambers were made with MS flats as ring placed one upon other with air space for entering of secondary air. Grates were also made with 19 X 6mm MS flat with air  space for entering of primary air. Fuel feeding port will serve as both primary and secondary air requirements. A baffle plate is provided which can be removed or inserted as and when required for use of long fuel in the partition of the fuel feeding port. one domestic top fuel charged  forced draft cookstove  was developed where small  fuel  can be fed at the top or at a time biomass pellet of 1 kg can be put inside the combustion chamber.Both primary and secondary are entered in the bottom as well as in  the fuel feeding port below and above the grate  and air is supplied through a fan of 5 to 12v capacity run by a 6v to 12v battery which can be charged through electricity or solar cell.

Fuel Saving: 35% fuel saves in comparison to traditional chulhas. Mild steel sheet and flats ,welding machine, bending, and sheet cutting machine are required for manufacturing of the cookstove and cheaper in cost.
