| Title: | Indigenous Sodium-ion battery |
| Value Proposition: | In order to avoid using lithium, which is a relatively scarce element in the earth's crust, researchers are making substantial efforts to develop new, alternative battery chemistries. The sodium-ion battery idea is one of the most alluring of these. In fact, sodium is abundant and chemically similar to lithium, which could speed up technological development by utilising the extensive collected knowledge in Li-ion batteries. In this context, CSIR-CECRI has created 18650-format cylindrical-type Na-ion batteries by combining indigenous cathode materials with a hard carbon anode. The prototype cell demonstrated a 1 Ah capacity in the 2.0 - 3.6 V voltage range. |
