 Technology Profile

Title:

Innovative Constructed Wetlands based Wastewater Treatment Plants

Value Proposition:

Constructed wetland Technology provides a sustainable wastewater treatment option for various kinds of polluted wastewater including municipal wastewater. It is one of the technologies which can be highly appropriate for Indian situation. It has potential of replacing costly conventional treatment plants. A very experienced research group at CSIR-IMMT Bhubaneswar is active in this field and running various types of constructed wetlands for treating municipal wastewater.

Salient Technical Features of the technology

  • Very much suitable for Indian conditions (Climatic Condition, Cost-COM, Not Much skills manpower etc)
  • No electricity
  • No Chemical
  • No sludge problem
  • No Machine
  • Low cost construction with local material
  • Very low operation and maintenance costs
  • Suitable to variable flows and remote locations
  • Really Green! Like a garden
Summary Application:

Applicable for Wastewater Treatment Technology Providers, Municipal Wastewater Treatment Agencies, Smart City, Town and Village planning agencies  and some industries (after modification) like food, distillery, pharmaceutical, sugar, dairy, and various other biological industries. Its floating version is highly useful for remediation of polluted water bodies.

Advantages:
  • Very low-cost
  • Very simple to operate
  • No electricity requirement
  • No chemical requirement
  • No sludge problem
  • Suitable to variable flows and remote locations
