Title:

Innovative Embedded Reinforced Concrete Dowel Shear Connector

Value Proposition:

The embedded shear connector with reinforced concrete dowels was developed as alternate to conventional shear connectors such as headed studs, perfobond, channel, angle shear connectors for steel-concrete composite bridge deck systems. The complicated interface detailing adopted for composite girders is replaced by simple embedded shear connector system. Embedded shear connection with concrete dowels could be classified as ductile shear connector according to EN-1994-1-1. Owing to the geometric advantage of corrugated steel web, there is no significant reduction in load sustained by specimens even though there is significant cracking of concrete flanges. It would be beneficial for agencies/ministries involved in infrastructure development and planning, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), State highways and NHAI, Public-private partnership (PPP) agencies, construction industry and Railways.

Summary Application:

Can be used for providing shear connection between corrugated steel web and concrete flange for composite bridge decks.

Advantages:

When compared to conventional shear connectors such as headed studs, perfobond, channel, angle shear connectors the embedded reinforced concrete dowel shear connector possess following advantage

  • Ease of installation
  • Economical
  • Efficient
  • Provides better workability
  • Better fatigue resistance then conventional shear connector
