Abstract: The present invention relates to a class of stable 2D covalent organic frameworks having a plurality of dimethylamino groups that can capture carbon dioxide at ambient temperature and pressure, and an economic and environmental-friendly method for generating transient surface charges and subsequently self-stripping COF into ultra-thin nanosheets. The peeled material has anti-pathogenic activity. The invention further claims a completely reversible carbon dioxide induced stripping process during heat treatment, thereby controlling the growth of bacteria by effective antibacterial switching.
