Title:

Intelligent Seismic Sensing System for Elephant Movement Detection (eleSeisAlert)

Value Proposition:

Intelligent Seismic Sensing Node (eleSeisAlert) is a customizable intelligent system that is capable of interfacing with an array of seismic sensors for detecting and classifying any ground vibration generated due to movements of animals, humans, etc. This system can be adapted for a wide range of ground sensing applications – wildlife monitoring for elephant-rail accidents, perimeter monitoring. The system has been piloted and validated for about ~400m range at Kansrao, Rajaji Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand. An early alert geo-tagged data will be communicated to the railway staff/forest guards upon detection of any movement to slow down the approaching trains. This technology has its usage for the reduction of elephant death due to rail accidents which not only conserves the bio-diversity but also reduces the loss incurred to Indian railways due to such accidents. A spin-off version of the similar technology can be also as an early warning device for the prevention of crop-raiding animals in agricultural fields.

  • Web-based front-end Analytics server (locally) for real-time alert generation, data visualization, sensors, and node health information.
  • The edge device and server are designed to run completely on solar power.
  • Connectivity over IoT cloud through for remote viewing capabilities and sending alerts to different locations.
Advantages:

The systems continuously process the seismic signals for detection of any moving target source. Upon any true detection at each sensor node, the patterns are classified and communicated to the analytics server for alert generation. The sensors are buried under the soil to protect it from trespassers and animals. Real-time alert generation for decision making and increasing situational awareness. Application areas are given below:

  • Detection of movement of wild animals along with linear infrastructures (railway lines, roads, etc)
  • Protection of agricultural croplands from animals (elephants, blue bull, etc)
