| Abstract: | With interfacial transport, the helical parallel flows in multi-helical channels fetch for novel process integration of multiple liquid-liquid unit processes. Here we have demonstrated the same for hydrometallurgical application for the integration of liquid-liquid extraction and liquid-liquid stripping into single and simultaneous process of liquid-liquid-liquid extraction- stripping. The reactor is designed in CAD software in multiple parts which are 3D printed and then joined axially. Cu+2 ions are selectively extracted-stripped from feed of aqueous solution by mining solvent LIX984N into an electrolytic solution of dilute H2SO4. Stable parallel flow of these immiscible liquids inside the reactor is ensured as they are all differently colored and flow along their helical flow paths. For better visualization of the same, the reactor is fabricated in transparent material like PDMS in a novel method of template digestion?. However, the reactor needs to be optimized for the geometrical parameters like length of the reactor, helix angle, helix diameter, and internal patterns on inside walls of helical flow paths etc. and as per the need of the selected application. |
