Title:

Low Ash Coal Production for Utilisation in Metallurgical Industries

Value Proposition:

This is for development of technology to produce low ash ( <10%)  coal from  coking & non coking Indian high ash coal by combination of physical/chemical and biological process so that the same can be ustilised in DRI/ BF and other metallurgical industries

Summary Application:

A viable indigenous technology has been developed to reduce the ash content to ~10% from high ash medium coking , low volatile coking coal, high ash non-coking coal as well as washery tailings by combination of physical/chemical and biological processes.

  •  It has been observed that if feed ash is less than 30%, it is easily possible to achieve 10% ash coal with reasonable yield by physical beneficiation either coking or non-coking coal at coarser as well as finer sizes. The quality of the coal indicates that it can be used for metallurgical purposes even in blast furnace injections.
  • The carbon value can be recovered from coal washery slimes by flotation process to achieve less than 10% ash coal.
  • A 2 million tonne per annum  capacity of coal washery to achieve 10% ash coal the backup period is 3 years.
Advantages:
  •  It is easily possible to achieve 10% ash coal with reasonable yield with feed ash  less than 30%,
  • Can be utilised in Blast furance injection / DRI and other metallurgical purpose
  • ROI within 3 years
