| Title: | Magnetoimpedance (MI) based Array Sensing Device for Detection of Carburisation and Defective Welds: MagRays |
| Value Proposition: | The larger number of arrayed elements in MagRays ensures large area coverage for assessment of larger components, thereby saving time. Moreover, the portable device can operate on battery when line power is not permitted. The device can be data logged remotely using a laptop/desktop through wifi. |
| Summary Application: | The earlier developed Giant Magneto-impedance (GMI) sensor has only a single sensor element, which is a rapidly quenched amorphous microwire of a diameter in the range of 80 to 120 microns. Therefore, the area of assessment was small. Thus, to increase the coverage area of evaluation, a project was proposed to develop a Giant Magneto-impedance based array sensor for the detection of carburization in austenitic steels/components used in petrochemical refinery units. Based on CSIR-NML’s laboratory experimentation and technical inputs, a device was fabricated by M/s. Acceler Microsystems, Chandigarh. Display and data logging include:
