Abstract: Method for preparation of hollow metallic spheres by powder route The process for the fabrication of hollow seamless metallic spheres is explained in detail. The process is suitable for making metallic hollow spheres with an outer diameter range of 1 mm to 6 mm and shell wall thickness from 75 µm to 500 µm. The process is based on the lost core technique in which the core/substrate was coated with metallic powder and will be removed at the final stages, leaving a hollow metallic shell. The coating process involves a fluidized bed coating system that ensures a uniform coating all over the core's surface. Hollow spheres prepared by this method can be used for making any structure or as a reinforcement component in the composite fabrication. These structures are very suitable for energy absorption, vibration damping, blast resistance, and other structural applications.
