Microbial Biofertilizer Technology for Sustainable Agriculture and Soil Health Enhancement

Value Proposition:

CSIR-IHBT offers an innovative biofertilizer solution derived from unique plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) native to the Western Himalayan niches. The formulation enhances crop yields, strengthens plant resilience against environmental stresses, and improves soil fertility-all while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. With proven field performance and multi-stress tolerance, it aligns with the growing global demand for sustainable and organic agricultural practices.

Summary Application:

The technology utilizes Himalayan PGPR strains with functional traits such as phosphate solubilization, siderophore production, potassium solubilization, nitrogen fixation, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, and ACC-deaminase activity. These microbes withstand harsh conditions including drought, salinity, extreme temperatures, and variable pH levels. Their efficacy has been validated through multilocational field trials across Himachal Pradesh and Punjab in different crops like potato, saffron, garlic, onion and pea.

The technology is suitable for organic and sustainable farming, integrated nutrient management, soil fertility restoration, and crop production under stress conditions, particularly in horticultural and vegetable systems.
