Milk Adulteration Detection Kit (MilkAchecker)

Summary Application:

Milk is a widely consumed food commodity globally. High nutrition value makes it an essential part of a complete diet. The increased consumption acts a catalyst for unscrupulous practices and food fraud. Adulterants such as Hydrogen peroxide, urea, Formalin, Ammonia & Ammonium compounds, Dairy salt, Starch, boric acid, Neutralizers, Cellulose, Nitrates& nitrites and detergent are added to dilute the milk. Synthetic milk is also produced using non-permissible fats, emulsifiers and preservatives. Since the adulterated milk looks similar to the original form hence accessing their integrity is difficult. Conventional methods for detection of adulterants in dairy products are based on chromatographic or spectrometric techniques. Such methods are often time consuming and require a technician for operating the equipments. Here, we have developed sensitive strip-type sensors and kit to detect multiple adulterants in milk. The colorimetric response from the strips and kit indicates the presence of specific adulterants. The colour chart provided along with the strips can be used to access the presence of Hydrogen peroxide, urea, Formalin, Ammonia & Ammonium compounds, Dairy salt, Starch, boric acid, Neutralizers, Cellulose, Nitrates& nitrites and detergent in milk.
