Title:

Multi-scale Engineered Strain Hardened Cement Composite – for Structural Upgradation

Value Proposition:
  • The developed technology can be used to upgrade the static and dynamic performance of the existing structures.
  • Non-FRP based scheme for upgradation, thereby, the problems associated with the conventional upgradation schemes like compatibility issues with the parent material can be resolved
  • Its cost to performance ratio is very attractive
Summary Application:
  • The developed multi-scale engineered strain hardened cement composite has a huge potential to upgrade the performance of existing concrete structures
  • Due to the high energy absorption capability and high ductility, the technology can also be used in seismic upgradation of structures located in the earthquake prone region
  • The technology can be used to upgrade structures ranging from bridges to high rise buildings
  • Due to the efficient design, low cost to performance ratio and high durability, this technology will be a game changer in the domain of retrofitting/upgradation of reinforced concrete/prestressed concrete structure
Advantages:
  • Fibers of three distinctly different length scales have been used
  • Possess high strength (20MPa) and high ductility (deformation ductility index of 18-20) – two contradicting features for cement composite
  • The rotational capacity is extremely high of the order 10˚
  • Undergoes strain hardening after peak load – a metal like behavior provides unique advantage
  • Improves both the static and cyclic performance of structures
