Title:

Multifunctional Epoxy Formulation with Improved Mechanical and Hygroscopic Properties for Aerospace Applications

Value Proposition:

Epoxy resin formulations were prepared with different combination of tri and tetra functional epoxy resins toughened with an engineering thermoplastic and cured with aromatic amines. 

Summary Application:

The samples exhibited very good thermal, mechanical and hot-wet properties and are potential materials for making multi-functional polymer composites suitable for aerospace, automobile, wind mills and other applications.

 

Advantages:
  • Curing cycle: Controlled rate of heating and cooling during the curing cycle to
    avoid any thermal shock to the formulated resin.
  • Desired properties such as tensile strength of 105 MPa, fracture toughness of 2.05
    MPa.m0.5 and lower moisture absorption of 1.5% for epoxy resin system toughened with polyethersulfone (PES)
  • Easy processing
  • Significant retention of hot-wet properties (60-80%); suitable to make multifunctional composites for aerospace applications.
