 Technology Profile

Title:

Multiplex-QPCR based Detection Kit for Differentiating Animal-Origin Textile Fibers

Value Proposition:

This technology relates to a multiplex-qPCR based detection kit for differentiating animal-origin textile fibers. The kit includes primers and probes along with suitable reagents and buffers used for efficient extraction of DNA and simultaneous detection of fibres present in woven textiles. The technology also provides a method for the simultaneous detection of Pashmina, Merino and Angora in textile samples, especially, raw wool, yarn and woven shawls. The detection kit identifies mitochondrial DNA from 84 to 191 copies in TaqMan probe- based qPCR assay with 100 % accuracy and will be valuable in detecting purity of fibres especially in 'speciality' fibres.

Summary Application:

Simultaneous detection of animal original textile fibers like Pashmina, Merino and Angora in textile samples.

Advantages:
  • The kit can simultaneously detect the presence of pashmina, merino and angora fibers in a woven fabric.
  • The kit and the process can yield DNA from hair tissues more efficiently and in high quantity compared to other available kits.
  • The kit and the process can identify even few fibers with or without guard hair belonging to pashmina, merino and angora fibers, using the species-specific primers and probes of the kit.
  • The qPCR primers of the present invention amplify Pashmina, Merino and Angora DNA from low copies using TaqManÔ probe-based qPCR assay.
  • The kit and the associated method is highly specific and sensitive with a limit of detection and limit of quantification as 84 and 283 copies for Pashmina, 157 and 2927 copies for Angora and 191 and 981 copies for Merino.
  • The kit identifies Pashmina, Merino or Angora mitochondrial DNA from 84 to 191 copies in TaqMan probe based qPCR assay.
  • The kit identifies Pashmina, Merino or Angora mitochondrial DNA with 100 % accuracy.
