Title:

NBRI-FloriGuard: A Herbal Spray for Enhancing Vase Life of Cut Flowers

Value Proposition:

Herbal spray prevents premature petal drop, dehydration, wilting & browning.

Summary Application:

NBRI-FloriGuard is an herbal spray developed and standardized with plant-based ingredients, including antimicrobial agents, free radical scavengers, and ethylene production regulators.  An assessment of the formulated spray has demonstrated its effectiveness in delaying the senescence process by inhibiting ethylene production by 33-56%. The formulation was found to down-regulate the expression of genes related to ethylene biosynthesis, such as ACC synthase (ACS), ACC oxidase (ACO), ethylene receptors (ETR), and ethylene response factors (ERF). This formulation offers protection to floral specimens from fungal and bacterial pathogens that cause decay. It enhances cellular viability in flower petals by effectively neutralizing reactive oxygen species. The formulation maintains the freshness of flowers and prolongs the vibrancy of petal and leaf pigmentation.

Advantages:

The herbal spray formulation designed to extend the vase life of cut flowers will greatly benefit the floriculture sector by significantly enhancing the longevity of popular varieties such as Rose, Gerbera, and Chrysanthemum.
