| Abstract: | The one-pot process for synthesis of bio-resin for super-hydrophobic wood coating is developed utilizing cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) sourced cardanol without the inclusion of silane, fluorine and nanoparticles. The esterification of cardanol-based diol is carried out using saturated fatty acids, which improved the hydrophobic properties of the developed resin. The polymerization process does not involve any initiator, catalyst and curing agent. The crosslinked bio-resins showed excellent thermal stability (250oC), solvent (THF, acetone, hexane, DCM, DMSO), and chemical resistance (pH 3-11) and also displayed superhydrophobicity (contact angle 150? and hysteresis 5?). The esterified bio-resin exhibits excellent self-cleaning and anti-icing properties compared to commercial polyurethane coatings. |
