Title:

Portable Lightweight Foldable Module for Make-Shift Hospitals and Other Needs (PoliTal-M)

Value Proposition:

In the present situation of quickly developing spacious structures for temporary housing/shelters in cases of unforeseen events/natural calamities, even in villages/remote places, it will be required to develop innovative concepts for prefabricated, lightweight and modular structures for rapid installation. Utilizing the expertise of CSIR-SERC on analysis and design of light weight structures and considering the requirements, designs of temporary structures have been made. The designs utilize optimum material (thus light weight), extremely stable and can be executed in fast track construction mode. The potential uses of the developed technology PoliTal-M will be for temporary hospitals, emergency shelters, construction site accommodations, Toilet units, Strategic sector units etc.

Summary Application:
  • PoliTal-M can be used for temporary housing/shelters in cases of unforeseen events/natural calamities, even in villages/remote places.
  • For setting up of temporary makeshift hospitals
  • For providing emergency shelters, construction site accommodations
  • The modules can be converted to use as Portable Toilet units
  • The modules have high potential to be used in Strategic sector units in the inaccessible areas

Advantages:

Poli-Tal-M is a lightweight foldable modular transit unit which can be transported and erected very quickly using just 2-3 labors.

The whole hospital for around 100 beds can be installed within a couple of days time including beds, electricity and water supply etc. All piping can be accommodated within the panels including switch boards and pipe connections.

  • The modular units are spacious and are multifunctional, can be used for patients, doctor's cabins and also can be used as testing labs.
  • Simple erection methodology of just unfolding and keeping the module in place and the unit is ready for use.
  • The modules can be stacked in sequence as per the site availability, even modules can be placed as first floor units with proper connectivity.
  • The total size of the full size module is around 6m x 3m x 0.150m which can be easily transportable from one place to another. The size is customizable during fabrication as per the requirement
