| Abstract: | Nicotinamide, is a component of vitamin B complex and an important molecule for pharmaceutical, and food industry. The present invention discloses a process for the preparation of efficient synthesis of nicotinamide. The process utilizes synthesized nano-rod manganese dioxide catalyst, prepared by reduction of Mn(VII) and Mn (II) salt in presence of surface active agents for higher surface properties. In the process microwave irradiation is used as an efficient energy source to hydrolyze 3-cyanopyridine to prepare nicotinamide. The process involves 3-cyanopyridine, water and catalyst and the reaction mixture was treated with microwave irradiation for 1-3 hour and 120-160 ? temperature. The product shows high yield (95%) and shorter time of less than 3 hours. Another advantage of the process is the use of water as solvent and no other organic solvent is used. Overall, the process describes mild reaction conditions, high catalytic activity, environmental friendliness, recyclability, less time consuming and high yield. Moreover, the process can also be used for other nitrile compounds of interest. | ||
