Title:

Process for Extraction of Caffeine from Tea Waste

Value Proposition:

Extraction of caffeine from Assam tea waste.

Summary Application:

A green and economic process is required to extract caffeine from tea waste in which the demand of caffeine can be met to some extent and treated tea waste can be used for feed for animals, feed for fish and as a manure.

It is the greatest challenge to implement natural caffeine production technology using tea waste for increasing business opportunities and employment generation to the country particularly in North East Region. We have developed/proof of process for suitable process technology for extraction of caffeine from Assam tea waste. The developed technology was demonstrated in pilot scale trial production in 1 kg/batch of caffeine. The developed technology will be benefited to the tea industries, employment generation of the local peoples of the NE regionand reduce the import quantity of caffeine in the country.

Advantages:
  • Employment generation of the local peoples of the NE region and to the country
  • Economic growth for tea factories by selling unutilized tea waste. Caffeine and tannin production industry will be established which will impact on employment generation and economic growth to nation. Utilization of tea waste residue for value added products (zero waste).
  • Income generation of the entrepreneurs will enhance the quality of life.
  • Reduction of soil pollution.
  • Employment generation for the common people of North Eastern Region as well as to the country.
