| Abstract: | The present invention provides an efficient process for extraction of Li from spodumene ore/concentrate, with an overall Li recovery efficiency higher than 91%. The invented process employs (i) lime (CaO) aided roasting of spodumene for favorable structural disruption of the refractory a- phase to reactive ? phase; (ii) innovative chloride leaching process for dissolution of 99% Li from the roasted ore/concentrate; and (iii) hydrothermal technique for 99% impurities removal wherein, Li loss during impurity precipitation is minimized. The overall Li recovery achieved is higher than 91%. The purified leaching solution (Li-brine), was taken for precipitation of high pure industrial grade Li2CO3 having purity 99.3%. |
