Abstract: The present invention relates to an ecofriendly, zero waste discharge process for the selective extraction of R-Phycoerythrin (R-PE)  from macro algae particularly seaweeds of class Rhodophyceae using Good?s Buffer Ionic liquids (GB-ILs) following a bio refinery  pathways. More specifically, the present invention discloses the use of GB-ILs comprising choline and HEPES as sustainable solvent  system to extract R-PE from red seaweeds without the contamination of R-Phycocyanin. The process is industrial viable, and solvent  used in extraction process can be recyclable and reusable for subsequent processes. The residual biomass can also be utilized to  produce products such as plant bio stimulants, phycocolloids, cellulose etc.
