Abstract:
The present invention provides a process of ruthenium-catalyzed dehydrogenation of the polyolefin followed by tandem isomerization and cross-metathesis to synthesize the linear alkyl benzene and dodecene derivatives. The dehydrogenation of polyethylene using ruthenium catalysis derived up to 3.38%, of double bonds; with 90% of the recovered polyolefin material. The recovered unsaturated polyethylene was further subjected for isomerization and cross-metathesis for the synthesis of dodecene as the major products and linear alkyl benzene derivatives selectively in a tandem manner. The developed strategy demonstrates the approach for the successful upgradation of polyolefin waste.
