| Abstract: | The present invention relates to a process for producing 1,1-difluoroethane (152a) from acetylene, using a catalyst prepared by doping -alumina with suitable metal nitrates. The gaseous mixture of acetylene and hydrogen fluoride gas is preheated to 120oC before passing through the catalyst bed, which is maintained at a higher temperature between 240oC and 260oC. The catalyst may be prepared using a variety of nitrates, including Mg(NO3)2.6H2O on gamma alumina. The process provides very high conversion of acetylene with high selectivity of HFC-152a. | ||
