 Technology Profile

Title:

Production of Alum from Waste Aluminium Dross Rejects

Value Proposition:

Alum will be used in effluent treatment units of various industries such as paper, leather, pharmaceuticals, etc. Further it can also be used to clean the sewerage waters thereby minimizing the foul smell in the urban areas thus contributing to Swatch Bharat Mission creating a greener and cleaner environment.

2.0 Crore with a Payback period of 1 Year

Summary Application:

Approximately 120000 tons/year of aluminium dross is generated in India and a very small quantity of this dross residue is used for making crackers, impure chemicals, and low-quality refractory bricks. Disposal and recycling of the residue is a worldwide problem and most of this residue (about 95%) is landfilled due to the unavailability of suitable technologies for recycling. This process is an environmentally benign process that will utilize this hazardous residue to produce a highly useful chemical alum at a very low price. Further, this will completely abolish the mishandling of dross residues that causes severe environmental hazards.

Advantages:

This technology is unique and the alum plant that has been designed for industrial production is first of its kind in India.

Zero discharge process
