| Abstract: | Production of calcium carbide and ferrosilicon-phosphorous from Abstract slag and Method thereof The invention discloses a method for bulk generation of recyclable products by smelting BOF slag in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). This novel method generates two products (i) ferrosilicon phosphorous and (ii) calcium carbide. The calcium carbide content of the slag phase is 40-85%, with the rest being alumino-silicate compounds. The iron metal phase contains high silicon in the 13-20% range and phosphorous content in the 4-8% range. In-situ generation of metal helps keep the low energy consumption of 2500- kWh/ton for a 60-weight % CaC2 grade on a 1 kg scale. The metal and carbide yield can be up to 27% and 35% from a unit feed of BOF slag. The carbonaceous material could be added as compacted briquettes with BOF slag or as a homogenous charge mixture. Thus it provides an energy-efficient vis-vis environmental-friendly novel method for value addition to BOF slag. |
