 Technology Profile

Title:

Protein based Synthetic Tanning Agent

Value Proposition:

Preparation of a novel protein based synthetic tanning agent from Chrome Shavings dust

Summary Application:

The technology relates to easy separation of collagen hydrolysate and chromium from chrome shavings by alkali digestion. Modification of collagen hydrolysate with natural polymer to prepare protein based syntan as retanning agent through solution polymerisation relates to treating of chrome shavings.

Advantages:
  • The process provides better functional leather can be produced by using this bio-polymeric syntan as an alternative to commercial toxic syntan in wet end processing.
  • The utilizationof protein containing waste for the development of Leather Chemicals, which in turn promotes the circulat economy and effective reutilization of solid waste generated
