| Abstract: | The present invention refers to a semi rigid inert gas chamber for titanium components manufacturing using wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) process. The invention provides inert atmosphere with the supply of inert gas in a laminar manner. The inert gas chamber is used for the robotic welding and WAAM of titanium. Titanium is reactive metal, which reacts with atmospheric gasses at elevated temperature. Therefore, the processing of titanium is performed in inert atmosphere. The existing technology of rigid gas chambers is not suitable to be used with robotic arm. Since, the robotic arm has more than three degree of freedom. The invented semi-rigid chamber has bottom rigid and a canopy type flexible top wherein the head of the robotic arm is attached. The semi-rigid chamber is purged with the inert gas and once an acceptable level of oxygen is achieved inside the chamber the WAAM processing is started. |
