| Abstract: | Skewed V-Groove-Based Unidirectional Planar Light Concentrators The Skewed V-Groove-Based Unidirectional planar light concentrators comprises linear array of the optical elements, optical elements, V-groves. The Unidirectional planar light concentrators (PLC) system uses single elemental non-imaging optics based on regular or size gradient skewed V-grooves and/or modified skewed V-grooves as light couplers (dielectric interfaces) for enabling unidirectional light redirection by total internal reflection or a combination of total internal reflection and single or multiple refractions. The Unidirectional planar light concentrators (PLC) system is endowed with high angular acceptance in one axis for the incident light, thereby avoiding the requirement for precise positioning and point-to-point solar tracking, which is commonly required for imaging optics (lens and mirror) based light concentrators. The Unidirectional planar light concentrators (PLC) optics can be used for direct light energy utilisation or coupled with photovoltaic or photothermal, or a combination of both photovoltaic and photothermal energy conversion devices for electrical and/or thermal energy generation. |
