Title:

Standalone UV Air Disinfection System for Rooms and Spaces

Value Proposition:
The present system is related to the field of disinfection of airborne pathogens and more specifically, to disinfect airborne viruses like SARS-COV-2 by the application of ultraviolet light for indoor applications. It is also related to air purification as well as maintaining indoor air quality.
Summary Application:

In response to the growing concern over Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee, in collaboration with CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh, has developed a portable standalone air disinfection and purification system. The system uses ultraviolet C (UVC) radiation combined with a unique co-axial cylindrical design that creates spiral airflow, increasing the retention time for more effective pathogen inactivation. Unlike conventional HEPA-based purifiers, this design ensures uniform UVC exposure, eliminates blind spots, and enhances disinfection efficiency. Key features include a dual-mode fan mounting system, raised inlet to prevent particle resuspension, and UVC leakage protection. Backed by CFD simulations, the system offers high efficiency, ease of use, and has been successfully transferred to multiple industry partners for commercial deployment.

Advantages:

The developed air disinfection system offers several key advantages, including enhanced disinfection efficiency through spiral airflow that increases UVC exposure time for effective pathogen inactivation. Its innovative design ensures uniform UVC coverage, eliminating blind spots and maximizing air treatment within a compact and portable unit. The system is user-friendly, requiring low maintenance and offering easy operation, while advanced safety features such as UVC leakage prevention and a raised inlet design minimize risks and prevent particle re-entry.
