Abstract: The present invention relates to a supported multimetallic catalyst system comprising metallic mixture of nickel and gold; or nickel,  gold and indium fortuning and enhancing selectivity in hydrogenation of carbon dioxide, and a method of synthesizing the same. The  present invention further relates to a method of hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into CO and methane via RWGS (tri-metallic  catalyst) and methanation (bimetallic catalyst) reactions respectively at lower temperatures and ambient pressure and lighter alcohols  (methanol) at high pressure and temperature (tri-metallic catalyst), respectively, using said supported multimetallic catalyst system.
