| Abstract: | A series of different metals (Zn/Fe/Co/Sn/Mg/La/Al/Cr) based double metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst is disclosed herein. Benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (BTC) is incorporated as an organic complexing agent (CA) in the DMC catalyst. The DMC catalysts prepared with BTC and its derivatives as CAs are highly active towards ring opening polymerization (ROP) of propylene oxide (PO) and imparts heterogeneity as compared to the DMC prepared without any CA. The polyether polyols (PEPOs) with controlled molecular weight (Mw), polydispersity index (PDI), hydroxyl value (OH), and iodine value (I2) are produced using a DMC catalyst. PEPOs of the present invention relate to low-dosage gas hydrate inhibitors (LDHIs) utilized to mitigate/manage the formation, growth, and deposition/agglomeration of gas hydrate crystals in oil and gas production pipelines (especially applicable to deep and ultra-deep developments), and drilling or fracturing operations during natural gas hydrate exploration. |
