Technology for Coking Coal Fine Beneficiation by  Column Flotation 

The technology is to beneficiate coking coal fines generated in coal washeries to achieve around 10-15% ash coal for making metallurgical coke production .

Around 15-20% below 0.5 mm sized coal is generated during crushing of fines for beneficiation of coal using heavy media or jig process. At present, flotation cells are being used to recover carbon values with desired ash conetnt. But the conventional cells are not performing as per the capacity due to in effective generation of bubbles and mixing effect.  

The advance flotation column systemn which has been designed at CSIR-IMMT can increase yield as well as quality of concentartion . This has been demnostrated at West Bokaro, Tata Steel and Sudamudih, BCCL, Dhanbad to recover the carbon values from rejected ultra fine coals.
