 Technology Profile

Title:

Technology for Conversion of Diesel Genset to Dual-Fuel Mode

Value Proposition:

Target Benefits of Dual-Fuel Genset

  • ~80% indigenization in the technology
  • Utilization of cleaner alternative fuels through partial replacement of diesel by NG or LPG. Piped natural gas (PNG) is more economical and available in several cities.
  • Environmental benefits by reducing ~70% PM emissions from stationary power generation
  • Commercialization of the technology would lead to the generation of employment for manufacturing, deployment, and sales.
  • The technology provides benefits not only in terms of emissions reduction but also a Return on Investment (ROI) opportunity as PNG is cheaper than diesel.
Summary Application:

In CSIR-IIP’s dual-fuel engine technology, diesel is directly injected into the combustion chamber while gaseous fuel is fumigated at the intake manifold. This technology partially substitutes diesel fuel by natural gas and reduces PM emissions in DG sets.

Advantages:

Salient Features of Dual-Fuel Genset

  • PM emissions reduction from DG sets
  • Utilization of natural gas in higher efficiency CI engines as compared to its utilization in SI engines.
  • With minor modifications, the dual-fuel system installed on one genset can be used on another genset, when existing genset is replaced by a new genset.
