Title:

Technology of Eco-Friendly and Low Cost Lime Sludge-based Wall Putty

Value Proposition:

Eco-Friendly Innovation from Industrial Waste:

It is a sustainable and cost-effective solution by repurposing lime sludge, a by-product of India’s pulp and paper industry, into high-performance wall putty. With India generating approximately 13 million tons of paper annually and producing 1.63 tons of lime sludge per ton of paper, this waste poses serious environmental and economic challenges due to limited landfill space and increasing disposal costs. lime sludge-based wall putty leverages the natural calcium carbonate content of the sludge, blended with essential admixtures like MHEC/HPMC, RDP/VAE, and white cement. The result is a high-quality product with superior plasticity, workability, and water retention for both interior and exterior applications. This innovation not only reduces industrial waste and reliance on virgin raw materials but also provides a low-cost, eco-friendly alternative to conventional wall putty, supporting circular economy practices and greener construction.

Summary Application:

External and internal wall putty application over the plaster/concrete surface.

Advantages:
  • Sustainable utilization of waste materials.
  • Cost saving in dumping.
  • Land saving technology.
  • Reduction in energy consumption.
  • Better physical and mechanical properties.
  • Application in inner and outer walls, on plasters/concrete surfaces.
  • Demonstration of developed wall putty at CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee.
