Abstract:
The present invention provides a thin film composite nanofiltration membrane with regenerative coating of polyethyleneimine of low  molecular weight and a process for the preparation thereof. The polyethyleneimine coating can be removed and recoated to restore the efficiency of the thin film  composite membrane. This helps to reuse the same membrane in cost effective manner. The process involves the preparation of polysulfone support membrane and then  interfacial polymerization between piperazine and trimesoyl chloride on top of the support to obtain pristine thin film composite nanofiltration membrane. The prepared  thin film composite nanofiltration membrane was coated by dipping in aqueous solution of low molecular weight branched polyethyleneimine. The polyethyleneimine  coated membrane was stable in the pH range of 3-9 . The polyethyleneimine coating can be easily removed by the circulation of water of pH range 2 or 9.5 for 1 h and  can be recoated again by dipping in polyethyleneimine (0.1% w/v) for 30 m.
