Title:

Ultrafiltration Membranes for Water Purification

Value Proposition:

Ultrafiltration membranes are used for removing high molecular organic compounds, microbes and extracellular polymeric substances from water. This types of membranes are useful for treating water where desalination is not intended. Therefore, these types of membranes find applications in water treatment for making water pathogen free, to produce drinking/process water from sweet water, as pretreatment of desalination process. Water recovery is much higher than desalination process. Know-how developed includes process for making such membranes. The process is tested and established at semi-commercial level. The properties of the membranes may be customized depending upon the area of applications of the interested customers

Summary Application:

Municipal drinking water purification: Municipal drinking water is mostly prefiltered by ultrafiltration membranes before house hold supply to make the same pathogen and high molecular organics free.

House hold water purification system: water sourced from local resources like deep well may be purified by using such membranes.

Industrial process water: Ultrafiltration membranes are used to produce pathogen and medium to high molecular organics free water

Pretreatment system: The same membrane may find uses as pretreatment to desalination process

Advantages:
  • Low reject water after filtration
  • Low energy consumption in comparison to desalination process
  • Well accepted and established process
  • Low bio-fouling
Commercialization Status: Licensed awaiting commercialisation
